Day 13 10.3.23 Dunedin, NZ

9° overnight.

Today is our last day on the trail. We finish the ride in Middlemarch and are then taken by shuttle bus to Dunedin in the afternoon.

Dining room at the Hyde Lodge.

Our selfie attempts were interesting this morning.  The sign was low and the sun in our eyes.

A better attempt.

Inside the Hyde railway station.

Thinking of this North Island ride for 2 years time.
We did it. So proud of my inlaws for taking on the challenge.

St Paul's Catholic Church.
We had an early lunch at the Kissing Gate Cafe in Middlemarch. Lots of cycling decor.
A quick visit to the museum.

Why did the chickens cross the road?

Chickens went straight into the tussock and behind a rock.

School dental chair.

A giant cookie we bought for afternoon tea and shared while waiting for the bus.
I bought a couple of souvenirs of our ride.
Today I rode 33kms, clocking up a total of 201kms for the 5 day trip. 152kms was the trail length the rest was riding to our accommodation and exploring the towns. We all enjoyed it and are already talking about getting together for another rail trail next year in N.S.W.

It was about a 75 minute hilly drive down to Dunedin on busy roads. We are booked in to the Victoria Hotel for 4 nights. After we showered and unpacked we headed out on foot to explore a little.

On my list to check this out tomorrow.
Law courts hotel where we ended up having a mediocre dinner.
High and Distric Law courts.

Pics from inside the Law Courts Hotel.

Trying to confuse the burglars maybe?
We are going to check this out tomorrow.
Temperature got to 18° today.

We had an amazing trip away. I thought 4 weeks would be too long just for the South Island but I was wrong. Another 2 or 3 weeks would have ...
