Day 22 19.3.23 Kumara

We departed Christchurch by 7.30am. We timed it perfectly as roads were being closed for the city to surf fun run and it is day 2 of the sailing Grand Prix.

Lots of scenery pics today.
Breakfast stop.

We were watching a flock of ducks in formation.

Went for a 2 km walk in the conservation park at Castle Hill.

Next stop was Lake Pearson, which has freedom camping for $10 per person.

On the road again.
Sunflowers.
We spotted snow and lots of fast flowing streams.

Crossing the bridge.
We also stopped at Arthur's Pass.  The Christchurch to Greymouth train was at the station ready to depart.

Not sure I'd want to camp in a place with the name Avalanche.

Finally the train departed.
Train turntable.

Bridge, over the stream, into the tunnel.
Looking back.
Train departing.

More stunning scenery along the way.

Looking back at the road we just came down.
Very interesting piece of engineering.

We called in to Kumara to see if our accommodation was ready but it wasn't.  We were 45 minutes early. We are staying in a shared cottage with a private bathroom but a shared kitchen and lounge room.
Rather than wait around we decided to drive to Greymouth and spent a couple of hours exploring.

Lots of murals around town.

So pretty how could I resist

Can't remember the name of this Beach.

Cobden Beach

Back to our accommodation.

We had dinner at the pub, a delicious local caught snapper and salad.
Today we travelled 292kms & we walked around 8kms.
